ER/70 R15

When low profile tyres, such as the ER/70 R15 Dunlop SP Sport (Aquajet), were first developed they used the alphabetical description instead of numerical as we do today. So the size ER/70 R15 is actually the same as saying 205/70 R15. The description ER/70 R15 is still used with the Dunlop SP Sport because it is part of the history of the tyre.

ER/70 R15 Tyres

The Dunlop ER/70 R15 was a ground braking tyre. The first production car to fit the new low profile tyre technology was the XJ6 Jaguar and this car left the factory fitted with Dunlop's new ER/70 R15 SP Sport. The ER/70 R15 SP Sport also acquired the nickname Aquajet. The ER/70 R15 Dunlop Aquajet tyre was also fitted to the V12 series 3 E Type. ER/70 R15 can be fitted as a low profile tyre in place of a 185R15.

This picture shows a selection of tyres in the size ER/70 R15, most of these tyres will have 205/70 R15 written on the side wall but that is the same as ER/70 R15. The only tyre that still currently calls itself an ER/70 R15 is the Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet. From the left: Dunlop ER/70 R15, Michelin XWX, Avon CR6ZZ, Vredestein, the next one isn't actually an ER/70 R15 (I don't know why it's in this picture) and the ER/70 R15 on the right is a budget tyre with a white band.
