When the incredibly low profile and high performance 345/35 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ P7 came out in the 1970's it rocked the world with the performance that could be expected from a tyre. In 1978 Lamborghini fitted the new 345/35 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ P7 to it's flag ship model, the Countach, the world was rocked again by what was the widest tyre in the world fitted to a production car.

Lamborghini Countach Tyres

The LP400 Countach came fitted with 205/70VR14 on the front and 215/70VR14 tyres on the rear. When PIRELLI got the incredibly wide 345/35 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 tyres homologated to withstand the forces that could be applied to the tyres by the Countach, Lamborghini were all too keen to fit them. Originally fitting a 205/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 to the front of the LP400S and the LP5000S however the LP5000 QV fitted 225/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7. When the Countach moved on to the 25th Anniversary model, they continued to fit the tyre size 225/50ZR15 P-Zero front and 345/35 ZR 15 PIRELLI P-Zero Asimmetrico on the rear, however now they used the asymmetric PIRELLI P-Zero Asimmetrico tyres.

345/35 VR 15 Tyres

The Pirelli range of P7 supercar tyres has expanded and as well as making a 225/50-16 tyre, they also now make the 205/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 that was matched with the 345/35 VR 15 on the earlier Lamborghini Countach, they make the 285/40 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 that was matched with the 345/35VR15 P7 on the front of the later De Tomaso Pantera, and Pirelli also make the 285/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 that was fitted on the Earlier Pantera.

It is worth pointing out that when this period tyre the 345/35VR15 P7 was first developed V was the highest speed rating attainable. Being over 149mph. Since then there has been a Z speed rating developed meaning capable over 240kmh however since then a Y speed rating has been developed. The 345/35 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 qualifies for all these speed ratings. However the side wall has its original writing on the side so it looks right with the V. but if you look closer you will notice that it also has in small text 345/35 R 15 95Y written on there, so it abides by the modern day rulings as well as looking cool.
