125 R 400 Michelin X

125R400 Tyres

When Michelin introduce radial tyres in the 40's they used 400 mm wheels, hence the tyre size 125R400 which Michelin made for Citroen's first 2CV. The size 125R400 means that the tyre is 125mm wide at the widest point of the tyre, the R means it is a radial tyre, and the 400 means that the tyre needs to be fitted to a 400 mm wheel. Today they are called 125SR400. the addition of the S means that the tyre is speed rated to 112mph.

125SR400 Michelin X Tyres

Michelin are the only tyre company currently making a tyre in the size 125SR400, so if you do have an early 2CV you don't really have a choice of what tyre to fit. However, that is not a problem because, in all honesty you would only want to fit a 125SR400 made by Michelin in the X tread pattern.
