Turbospeed
For a quality Crossply tire of the ‘50s The Avon Turbospeed would be one of the best. PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 is an excellent radial alternative to an Avon Turbospeed
Avon TurboSpeed Tires
The Avon Turbospeed is a very high quality crossply- The Turbospeed is designed for the select range of cars of the 50\'s & 60\'s capable of speeds up to 150mph (240kmh) which is why in period some of these tires had a V speed rating- However the crossply Avon TurboSpeed tires manufactured today hold the H speed rating- The Original appearance combines with the highest quality construction for authenticity on classic high speed vehicles- We would still suggest, that of the 15" & 16" crossply tires available for performance cars today, the Avon TurboSpeed is among the best-
In the 50\'s when the Avon TurboSpeed crossply tires were being used by the likes of Rolls Royce and Aston Martin, there was not the amount of dual carriageways and motorways that there are today- The effect of these higher cruising speeds means that people want to use a radiali alternativa tire for improved directional stability- In which case we would recommend fitting a period radiali such as the Michelin X which came out in the 50\'s or as Aston Martin did people fit the PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ which in the cases of the sizes that Avon make their Turbospeed; PIRELLI still make the V rated radiali tires that were fitted by Aston Martin, Jaguar, Ferrari, MG, Lancia, etc in the 50\'s and 60\'s- Some considerable time later Avon developed the Avon Turbosteel radiali tire which took over from the Crossply Turbospeed, right at the end of the 60\'s-
