Porsche 356 Tires

  • The Pre A 356 Porsche produced from 1948 to 1955, fitted 16" wheels and 5.25x16 tires, our recommendation is to equip it with the 5.00/5.25 x 16 Avon Tourist, accompanied by a set of Michelin 16E innertubes.
  • When the Porsche 356 A transitioned to 15" wheels, it also switched to 5.60x15 crossply tires. Unfortunately, we currently do not have a crossply tire that we can recommend specifically for the 356A model.
  • For both the Porsche 356A and Porsche 356B, we highly recommend the 165HR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 as the most suitable period tire available.
  • In 1964, the Porsche 356 C and 356 SC were fitted with either a German-made 165R15 Dunlop tire (which is no longer in production) or the 165HR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67.
  • The 165HR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67, which dates back to 1952, is the only authentic period tire in production in period that is still being manufactured today. It was also an optional choice for early 911 models.
  • The 165-15 Michelin XAS, an asymmetric tire introduced in 1965, was one of the available choices for early 911 models.
  • A later V-rated tire from 1968, the 165 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 N, has received Porsche's testing and homologation, as indicated by the N marking.
  • Some individuals prefer wider tires for their 356. In such cases, the recommended option is the 185/70VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 N.
  • It is important to note that wider tires can negatively impact the handling of early cars like the 356, and the CN36 is suited to a more modern chassis than that of a 356.
  • The 356 was introduced during a time when tubeless technology was still in its early stages. Consequently, the vehicles were manufactured with tube-style wheels, necessitating the use of innertubes even when fitting tubeless radial tires.
  • For Porsche 356A and Porsche 356B innertubes, we suggest using the Michelin 15E option for 165R15 or 5.60x15 tires.
