PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN72 tires

Through out the 40's & 50's top car manufacturers tended to fit 185VR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 tires- Manufacturers such as Aston Martin and Jaguar that would fit crossply tires in the size 600X16- If a radiali tire was requested they would fit PIRELLI's CINTURATO ™ 185VR16 CA67. At the beginning of the 60's there was a movement towards 15" wheels with cars like the Ferrari 250 fitting 185VR15 CA67 CINTURATO ™ HS tires. Still using 185 section tires untill in 1964, untill PIRELLI developed a V rated tire with a 205 section with the capability to withstand the speeds that were needed for these cars- PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ developed the new 205VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS.

It is important to note that the 205VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS is a very different tire to a 205/70VR15. the 205VR15 is a full profile tire offering a diameter of 707mm which is almost exactly the same as that of the 185VR16 CINTURATO ™ which it replaced on many cars like the Maserati Mistral & Sebring. The other 2 tires in this picture are; On the right the 215/70VR15 Michelin XWX which was the tire that many of these cars such as the Ghibli fitted post 1972. on the left the 205/70VR15 Michelin XWX which is often misguidedly fitted instead of the 205VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN72, because the diameter is totally wrong- the point of the photograph is to demonstrate the differences in size to show that for a 60's car a 70 profile tire is not right where the CN72 is perfect. However for 1970's and 1980's cars the Michelin XWX is perfect-

PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS

1964 saw the transition of many cars from 185VR16 CINTURATO ™ CA67 to the new 205VR15 PIRELLI CN72 CINTURATO ™ HS- (the HS standing for; High Speed)- As well as PIRELLI's CN72 being able withstand these high speeds; manufacturers had to develop there cars to be able to handle well on these new' comparatively massive tires which gave outstanding levels of grip-

The CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS 205VR15 was the mainstay OE tire for a great many exotic cars from 1964 through to about 1972. Also Many cars Like the Silver Shadow 1 and Aston Martins DB6 Series 2 and early DBS would jump at the opportunity of fitting the CN72 CINTURATO ™ as the best radial alternative to their cross ply OE tire.
