The tyre size 185/70R15 was original equipment on the front of a Maserati Merak, and a De Tomaso. 185/70VR15 to mention many Porsches such as 924, 944 and early 911.

185/70VR15 Tyres

Many other cars that would have originally fitted 165R15 now choose to fit a 185/70VR15 instead. However fitting 185/70VR15 will make the steering heavier and the handling not so pleasant. a 185/70VR15 Avon CR6 ZZ tyre will dramatically increase the foot print of the tyre which is not always ideal on the road. However fitting 185/70VR15 Avon CR6 ZZ to these cars for track use will often be excellent.

185/70VR15 tyres are often fitted to cars such as TR4, TR5, TR6, VW Beetle and Porsche 356. These cars will handle better with out the 185/70VR15 and the handling will be improved by sticking to a to quality 165HR15 Michelin XAS tyre
The 185/70VR15 Avon CR6 ZZ is often fitted as a radial alternative to some sports cars of the early 50's and 60's that would originally have had a Crossply Tyres such as 590X15 or 560X15. This is an excellent choice for track use.
