During the 1940s and 1950s, renowned car manufacturers typically equipped their vehicles with crossply tires. However, if a radial tire was requested, Aston Martin and Jaguar would fit the 185VR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67. As the 1960s approached, there was a shift towards 15" wheels, with cars like the Ferrari 250 opting for 185VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 tires. In 1964, PIRELLI developed the V-rated 205VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN72, specifically designed to handle the new speeds attained by these vehicles.

It is worth noting that the 205VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS differs significantly from a 205/70VR15 tire. The 205VR15 features a full-profile design with a diameter of 707mm, nearly identical to its predecessor, the 185VR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67, commonly found on cars such as the Maserati Mistral and Sebring.

In 1964, the automotive industry witnessed a shift from the 185VR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 to the new 205VR15 PIRELLI CN72 CINTURATO ™ HS (High Speed) tires. Not only could the CN72 withstand these high speeds, but car manufacturers also had to enhance their vehicles' handling capabilities to match the performance of these comparatively larger tires, which provided exceptional levels of grip.

The 205VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN72 HS became the go-to original equipment (OE) tire for numerous exotic cars from 1964 to around 1972. Models like the Silver Shadow 1, Aston Martin DB6 Series 2, and early DBS eagerly embraced the CN72 CINTURATO ™ as the finest radial alternative to their original crossply tires.
