Lotus Elan Tires

  • The earliest Lotus Elan 1500 tires were 5.20x13 Goodyear crossply tires, with the option of upgrading to a 145R13 radial tires.
  • In 1964, Lotus started fitting 145 R13 Dunlop SP41 radials as standard. In spring 1965, Lotus moved to fitting Goodyear G800 tires.
  • Today, the 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is an excellent classic tire for these early Elan cars.
  • If you want a bigger tire for your Elan 1500, we suggest a set of 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 tyres.

    1980 Lotus Elan

  • The Lotus Elan SE from 1969 had 155 R13 tires. The finest Lotus Elan tires in this size are the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 or the 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF.
  • The Lotus Elan Plus 2 was initially furnished with 165R13 tires; the best tire in this size today is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.

Lotus Elan Wider Tires

  • The low-profile alternative size to a 165R13 is 175/70R13; however, adding bigger tires is not recommended for the Lotus Elan. We advocate preserving the original tire size for the Elan since it is better suited to the vehicle's construction.
  • If you prefer wider tires, the 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is more suited to the Elan chassis than other tires in this size.

Lotus Elan Inner Tubes

  • Wire wheels always require inner tubes to function properly. If you have Borrani wire wheels, you must use inner tubes.
  • The Michelin 13CG is the most suitable innertube for 145 R13 tires.
  • The Michelin 13D is the optimum tube for 155R13 and 165R13 tires.
  • 175/70 R13 tires are most compatible with Michelin 13E inner tubes.
